For nearly the last four decades I've tried to train my wife to give directions I could remember. Now in the last three, since she retired, I have finished the project. It is no longer "next to the two story house with the tulips" but is now "the place by the black five window". Success is sweet.
Success is so bittersweet! It was worth the wait though, right? Mine said to me the other day "Hey there's a truck just like ours on the way to mothers, we ought to check it out!" So I say, of course, "Where?" The standard reply is "i'm not sure". "Well, what part of town were you in when you saw it?" "I'm not sure". OK. "It had a 4 sale sign on it and I think it had those opera windows in the back" "Cool", I say. "Did you go to your mom's house the same way you always do, down the beltway?" "No, the traffic was slow, so i went a different way". "so did you go down the loop?" "I'm not sure. You know i only go that way if the traffic is bad". "Well sweetie, didn't you say the traffic was bad?" "Well yeah, but it wasn't that bad". "So, you think you could find it again?" "I'm not sure, but if i ever do, i'll call you!" She's still the best!
