    I am looking for gauges which will fit in a 47-53 dash that are 12 volt for oil, temp, etc. I know I can purchase these new or rebuilt, but I'm a Yankee( my wife says that polite for cheap).
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Jeff ;

    That's nothing to be ashamed of , esp. in to-day's crazy world .

    In you can find a rusted out '55 or newer (up to 1964 IIRC Dubble-Dutti step van , it'll have the gauges you need , you'll need to transfer them to your old gauge pod and face plate though .

    Or , I am told Radio Shack has a voltage regulator that'll cut 12 + volts DC down to 6 VDC , remember , only the gas gauge needs attention , the ammeter cares not a whit about voltage , it just reads amperes . should be under $10.00 , no I don't have the P/N .

    Temp. & oil press. gauges are Bourdon Tube typ so don't care about voltage .

    Whatever you do , _DO_NOT_ use one of those bullsh*t resistor dealies , they suck and _will_ burn out your original fuel gauge over time .

    i have also heard that an old GMC (for zig and boys) bus will have 12 volt gauges that drop in. so if you find a bone yard for busses have a look. i have not checked this out myself, but a guy at a car show told me that's what he used

    GMC Gauges

    Just so _ GMC Division knew thier trucks would be used for real work and this means replacing a dead gauge out on the road miles from home and dealer , so they use std. sized gauges , making it simple to replace them .

    AD's of course don't quite have the feature -but- later model GMC's did in some cases , use a similar gauge pod and so they're out there , you must beat the bushes quite a bit .
