Engine speed Yes, it is an enclosed drive shaft. When I 1st started working on the vehicle, the 1st thing I did was change all fluids. I noticed in the differential that there were metal slivers, small ones, not good I thought. That is the only part of the drive train now that has not been overhauled. I suspect its life is short, but I have no proof of that other than the initial inspection. Again, I appreciated all the good help here. Thank you. kent
As long as you don't find any more SWARF in the final drive and there's no hum or vibrations , it'll prolly be fine , if it worries you , locate a spare one that's good used and rebuild your current one , if it turns up dead , B.E.R. or you simply screw it up , pop in the spare you found for cheap (NO ONE wants these big heavy suckers !) As far as simple radiator and cooling system cleaning , there's a whole deal you must do by the numbers else it won't work but , Citric Acid Powder does the trick , about three pounds of it mixed in distilled water then drive it an hour or so , drain and be amazed at how much black crud somes out . First thing though , you must flush the cooling system untill it's clean then run some non sudsing detergent in it for a day (Think 'SHOUT' etc.) and then rinse that all out , I stupidly tried to cheat and I used liquid Tide , boy howdy ! it took me a week of flushing several times a day to get all the suds out of the water jacket... I put the Citric Acid Powder in my radiator and then I drove it to work and let it sit all day , the amount of crud that came out the drain cock was incredible and I had to drain & re-fill it a dozen times before it'd stay clean driving it for over 30 minutes on the open road....

Yep , mix the citric acid & water out of the vehicle and then add it , if the water is warm , it'll dissolve pretty quickly . Be ready for the black gunk that'll come out .
That fancy imported water -- is that with or without gas? The rear end in my 54 had already been changed out when i got it. My truck will get up to 70 mph. (54 chevy 3100). I started with 2 and a half trucks, picked the best parts and ended up with the changed out rear end. True is, I'm glad it's been changed; works better on the road. But I stay off the interstates of course! Drive them if you got them.
