My 52 3/4 ton truck just came back from getting painted and looks great. But now the radiator has a leak. Its always something. I suspect I will need to buy a new one, probably the one that Classic Parts offers. But I'm out of money until next Spring! Any thoughts on making it last until then? Or do I just carry around with me a gallon of water to re-fill if needed out on the road. Thanks, Eric
Eric ; The coolant is clear and not muddy nor cloudy , right ? if not , flush it untill it's clear then add a tube of " Silver Seal " ~ it comes in plastic tubes and is simply killer stop leak . Remember : NO TAP WATER ! use distilled water from the grocery store , this retards the corrosion buildup caused by minerals found in tap water . Leaving the radiator cap loose will reduce leaking too by relieving the pressure .
Leaking Radiator Followup Nate, I am assuming from your message that I put the Silver Seal into the radiator with the radiator full, right? By the way, I am running a 50/50 mix in the radiator. Is that about right? Thanks, as always. Eric
Ooh, ooh, pick me! I know the answer! Eric, the Great One has covered this before. And I hang on every word. 60 percent DISTILLED water and 40 percent anti-freeze. Make sure to reverse flush the radiator until it runs clear, then add the Silver Seal according to the directions.
Yep , never more than 40 % coolant (unless you're in Minnesota !) and ALWAYS read and follow the instructions on the tube of Silver Seal....
