Still going to save some more money for more goodies probably still be little while longer before get to drop it in.even though its got the 2 barrel intake manifold as of now I will be going to 4 barrel carb before I get the beast firred upYea thats the engine that I bought off you Jermney only thing thats not new is block and crankshift got $1200.00 in it so far and got little way to go.
NICE motor 283 Man ! I know him,i've got thesame Just 1 question....i hope you understand. Your photo number 3,the place where you put the pulley,at my motor it is something else and have the problem that the correct pulley for a 283 motor does not fit. The hole in the middle is to small on the pulley, bought allready 2 in the USA but these have thesame size hole. Look at the picture please,so you can see what i am talking abouth in my bad English On my old motor it was no problem, there was no bolt in the middle. Do you or somebody else know what the problem is ? Why the difference ? Thanks from Belgium ! Johan
Johan is referring to the fact that most early engines crankshafts were not drilled for a bolt to hold the harmonic balancer on. Johan's new engine does have a bolt and now he can not find a pulley with a large enough centerhole to fit over the bolt. Johan, my have to try a pulley from a later model 350. I am not sure if the bolt patten is the same, but I would think that it would work.
Green & White that is correct what your saying. Now i know that it is a old-newer model 283 thing. I have made the hole a little bit bigger but the problem is is that it's turning now a little bit oval....can this hurt the motor (crankshaft-harmonic balancer) ? I have another pulley and that is gooing to a shop to make the hole at the correct size bigger,so it is not oval... I did the rebuild of the motor not myself,i bought him like that in Germany,he is rebuilded in the USA and these are the specifications : * Rare V8 283 HP engine completely new, reconditioned in specialised workshop. The engine is early 60's. Cylinderhead, forged cranckshaft and bearings, HP camshaft and bearings , HV oilpump, dubbel roller bearing-drive chain, brass anti-frost plugs, everything replaced (new). The cylinderheads are the rare Power Pack heads, also used on the Corvette. Also, the 4V intake manifold is original, as well as the valve covers. This is a very rare engine, not easily found and verry powerfull ! The engine has approx. 255 HP and fits all Chevy models. Bills for all used parts at hand. The pistons are .080 overbore, honed, new Chrome-Moly pistonrings. The pistons are Flattop HP. Compression is 9,5 to 1. Engine number is 3789935.
