just found this site wanted to join - was reading all the post on this thread & noticed that most of the questions here are the same things i had encountered while building my 64 hot rod frame up restoration 1st pic is what it looks like now but not finnished yet work in progress 2nd is what we started with - i have a bunch of misc. parts left over also - two dash pannels - glove box cover ect.- and a bunch of stock parts i dont need - i had a 64 for my first truck when i turned 16 & decided to do all the things i never had money to do back then - the list is pretty long on what my sons & i have done so far heres a few spec's - 406 BRE SB moved forward 2" for more clearance at firewall (471ftlb & 428 HP at the wheels on the dino) 700R4 trany with shift kit - narrowed 9" with 4:11 w/locker - coil over shock conversion -15" mickys on centerlines - Bellengers old school sound headers with cutouts - lowered spindles with disc brake conversion - power steering conversion - custom aluminum fire wall - custom aluminum dash - custom stereo with 2 12" woofers in a custom center console (when those kids pull up next to me and i can hear their stereo bumpn i crank mine & blow them away every time have 7 speakers in the cab sounds great) this thing is a blast to drive & handles like a sports car - have to run for now thanks for the oportunity to post about my 64 - if any one has any questions on restoring these awesome trucks would be glad to help & share any info i have - thanks John
Thanks - were thinkin of making her a sister - 64 short step 4x4 would look good sittn in front of shop both worlds street & off road - dont ya think
Thanks - i love it - working on it - drivin it - the looks i get - its so cool to be able to smoke the tires at will - and its scarry fast to boot - only thing i wish i would have went with fuel injected - but was focused on old school when i started - maybe change to efi when i get closer to being done - & mabey a blower whatda think ?
Would love to see more pics- esp. of the rear suspension... interesting. Don't know if you would be happy with an EFI or not. You can make really abundant race-type high-revving horsepower with your carb. In the Camaro world most guys who want raw horsepower, as opposed to torque, actually get rid of their efi in favor of carbs. A throttle body efi (TBI) might work.
billydonn - pics i posted yesterday are in member galleries under jvan - will take some new pics of rear suspension for u today & post - realy fairly simple - all stock sept for urathane bushings , lowering blocks, pinion angle shims, bolt on coil over conversion, & sway bar
