i have a 1982 1-ton dually and a 1985 1/2 ton the 82 had a/c took out compressor etc. the 85 does not have a/c i want to put the heater unit including the core into the 82 1-ton. so i have more room in engine compartment, i believe the units should be no problem to fit from one to the other, the question and concern i have is do i have to completelt change the whole mudule assembly (plastic parts of heater under and behind dash) to do a complete swap? or can i just change the heater cores? all info would be greatly apreciated.
Yes there a bit of work, Well lots of work. Your right you will have to remove all the A/c ducting under the dash the heater control the heater line rod's heater core, heater box in side fire wall bye your feet, out side heater core cover . You have to change the spots where the core hose come out, & where the core opening goes to let air run through it( means you have the cut holes move over the core hole "patch & cut new on" on the firewall. ) So everthing on the NONE A/c has to be put on the one with the A/c you want to delete the A/c off. If you are good at welding it should not be to hard for you. I had did this to but I have not got all the pic set up yet.
i would have figured with the cabs being identicle that there may be like corrogated spots where the holes for non/ac would have gone. like on the kick panels with no manual pull open vents th ac one already has a hole on pass side but the drivers side is corrogated oh well i get it done one way or another. thanks for the info pontiac.
this should give you a idea of the hole you need. I still have to do some set up to post it the way i want. to show it find all the pic's. This is a A/c firewall rough draw out at first to try help when I was going to start welding. **Doubble check one of the lower left hole I think it might be needed depending on the friewall matting you use for one of the plugs that hold it up. If you have both trucks still it will be easier to see the defferents be tween the two. I hope this helps a little.
