Hello, first timer here. I bought a '58 apache which doesn't have the original drive train. I was wondering how I could identify the rear axle.
It is a 10 bolt and it has 5 wheel studs. there a 2 diagonal brackets
with rubber bushings on top of the differential case (maybe for stabilizer
bars?) and it is about 59 inches from between backing plates. Is there
any way to tell what it is?

look up the bolt pattern at a auto store, or look for a number tag casting numbers, but it sounds like it could be one off a 72 or newer axle. hope that helps

Are the brackets part of the casting? If so, it is most likely a 10 bolt out of a Chevelle, Monte Carlo or similar GM car. Those where for the upper factory 4 link bars.
