Got a question on heads are the 283 power pack heads rare? are they good? my NEW 283 motor that really close to be fired up (got to rebuild my 4 barrel carb. and a few odds & ends left on get truck back on road.)has a set of 283 power pack heads..
Hi 283man, i've got them also on my "new" motor. The guy from the shop where i bought him told me that the power pack heads where used on the 283 motor for early Chevrolet Corvette's. I don't know if it's true but 1 thing 1 know.....there was a lot off power in that motor when i did the testdrive ! Johan
im not sure about the rarity of power pack heads. but if you go to mortec.com you can find all the info such as 250hp 300hp 365hp or 60cc or 64cc car or truck what carb. you can search the engine # ,the block casting #, or the head casting # another site is crazyz28.com
Thanks 654x4 going to take my valve covers back off today and check the numbers on the heads just to see the horsepower on them, www.mortec.com love that site.Cant wait maybe in couple of weeks get to fire up the new 283 .
didnt tell the horsepower of my heads on mortec.com ,but the numbers on heads are 3884520 they are made in Canada, 60cc chamber says also used by Studebaker good cars and trucks Studebakers were.
the 283 had few heads to that were 64cc like 327,I love both those motors think they were best mouse motors chevy ever put in production.
Ive read that chevy 305 heads are excellent on the 283- raise compression and flow better i believe. Steve.
