Yes , And NO You DO NOT need to turn up the voltage regulator to keep an 8 volt battery charged up ! . But , you need to look at why you're needing it ~ most of the time the battery cables on yur truck are the wrong ones , 6 volt sysytems draw a lot of amperes (more than a 12 volt system) so the cables must be # 1 or # 0 gauge (thick like your thumb) and not have those crappy add a clamp repair things on the ends . NAPA can order you up a pair of correct 0 gauge cable and be _SURE_ the ground cable goes to the ENGINE OR TRANNY , _not_ the frame ! . Then adjust your valves , if you've not done them personally , they're tight and this makes for hard starting hot ot cold . Set the dwell and timing dead nuts to 33° dwell and Ball on Pointer @ 600 RPM's and it should start easily down to 40° , maybe colder if you have a good choke and know how to use it . Be aware that an 8 volt battery is only a patch and won't cure it forever , it'll prolly use light bulbs faster too with one .
thanks for the info. just trying to figure out all my options to keep my ole truck original. its got a good working radio and i sure don't want to fry it.
