O.K. , some of youse guys (and Gals !) will understand this , the rest please pardon me for weeping publicly :

I was perusing the P-A-P junkyard in Sta. Fe Springs , Ca. to-day for old Mercedes parts and I decided to quickly troll the truck section as they get in lotsa good trucks and the occasional late 50's rig ~ I happened to see the tailgate of a faded gold colored early 1970's vintage Chebby pickup , original paint with sun fading and scratches , lots of dust from long term storage but NO DENTS nor primer spots , walking past the open passenger side window revealed a perfect if tired inerior with THREE PEDALS and a Column shifter ~ Three On The Tree ! , this piqued my curiosity a bit so I looked under the hood and sure enough , there was a bone stock 250 C.I. InLine 6 Banger engine ~ the truck was a 1974 model (hence the Off Topic) but it must have been Grandpa's truck as is wasn't worked to death nor beat up by kiddies , just very tired (worn out Saddleman seat cover) and extremely dusty from having sat in a carport for many years....

What a shame . I realize a 1974 C-10 isn't a popular truck but GM did sell about 2 Zillion of them (in round numbers) and there's almost none left .

P-A-P wouldn't pay over $85.00 for this truck unless it drove in and I'd have happily paid $500.00 for it running or not as it had everything under the hood and on the body , as original ~ air cleaner , Rochester Monojet carby , SMOG crap , all of it :( I just don't see these rigs any more and it saddened me .

It even had Ventshades in the doors .

Well , enough whining for now I guess .

    Nate, was it 2-tone?

Gold body, off-white roof, nice S/S trim, full wheel covers, not hubcaps? Decked out in Cheyanne trim? Say what you want about 230's and 250's, I still say they rock!

You just described my granddad's last truck! Was there some old tranny parts in the scarred up bed?:)

    Tranny In Situ ~!

Aluminum body trims , sorry I allready forget if it was a Scottsdale or Cheyanne model , dash was black in color , I didn't even open the doors , just looked in the open windows .

Once every year or so I find one of these old basic trucks and every time it's obviously an old mans truck , clean and unmodified , even has the original Delco AM radio with the knobs still on it....

Usually has the jack behind the seat etc.

They're no longer making InLine 6 Banger truck and those are what built America , not V-ates

Nate: Don't feel that you need to politically correct in including (gals). by all practicality I am one of the guys (at least where I come from)... But not like that kinks song.... lo lo lo lo lola... Girls will be boys and boys will be girls Its a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for lola lo lo lo lola... (just a random thought... love the Kinks) I may have beat up oil stained hands, but I am all lady. "Guys" is a general term these days anyway.

    Okay Jess !

I'll try but you know I'm from another time & era....

I did once meet this nice your lady who ran her daddy's junkyard , smart as a whip and good with tools , not skinny either (a plus for me) and she was even a bit interested in me but , she was also like 20 - odd years old and I tried that once , didn't like it too much .

I just wish I could find a nice lady who rode Motos....

    :(

    :D

Back to work now !

Hey that junkyard is not far at all from where I use to live in Whittier. So Nate, are you in that area yourself? If so, I'd sure like to find your shop.
    Thanks,
    Robert
