Does anyone know of a source for door window frames (outer and inner)? My truck is a '53 with the vent glass. I am not sure if that matters. I looked on Chevy Duty but it doesn't look like they carry them.
What I usually do is : buy a pair of rusted out doors , they're uaually really cheap and will generally include all the small parts and correct screws too . Just a thought . If you go over to The Stovebolt Page and look for ' Mother Trucker ' he sells parts used . LOTS of parts . BTW : the doors off that BIG old same year truck as yours that's sitting there all full of bullet holes , about to be crushed ? they're the very same doors as your pickup uses.... -Nate
Thanks. I ordered a pair of used inner door window frames. They were out of stock on the outside ones but I asked them to notify me if they get some. Anyone know what Chevy Duty part # 19-541 is? There's no picture. It just says (1947-54) Outside Door Molding - Left - Painted The price is $60. I wonder if this is the outside window frame. I was hoping for stainless but I guess I could get these chromed if they were the correct item.
Yeah , that's it but hold out for some stainless steel ones , you'll be glad you did . DON'T by complicated (compound bends) repop sheet metal parts ! you'll be very dissapointed . -Nate
Good advice. I have the folks at Americanclassic looking for a set of used stainless frames. Hopefully they can come through for me. My '50 had the stainless door frames and I sure liked the looks of them. I guess it would be possible to chrome a set of steel ones if I had to. I know what you are saying about the after-market parts. Some of the pieces are pretty good but others require a lot of modifications. When I was tearing down my truck, I could tell there was a lot of rust in behind there so I knew I had to get the door frames off. They were just painted metal and were in pretty rough shape but I would have been more careful taking them off if I knew how hard it would be to find new ones. I have some time. The truck isn't yet painted but it's getting oh so close. Come February, it will be 2 years since I bought it. It has been slow-going but I still enjoy working on it when I get the chance.
Lemme know if you cannot find the stainless outer frames as i took my old painted ones off when I got some stainless ones , I don't need 'em anymore . They're O.K. , not pretty , need re-painting or chroming . -Nate
Nate - My outer frames were the painted steel and are now badly rust pitted. I'd be delighted to sport your old ones on my '49 GMC if nobody else is interested in them. Mike M '27 Chevy '41 John Deere B '49 GMC FC-150
O.K. then , I'll have to go dig them out of the junk piles in my back yard . You'll have to keep reminding me , OFF LIST untill I tell you I've located them , O.K. ? . -Nate
I got a pair of used stainless frames tonight. A couple of minor dings on the passenger side but overall they are in better condition than I was expecting. Over 50 years old and not a speck of rust. Too bad the cab corners weren't made out of stainless steel. It would have saved me a lot of time. John DeLorean might have been on to something.
Oh good ~ I've been cleaning up and tossing out old parts , I still haven't found my old frames and i am sure I'd not toss them out . -Nate
