oil pump primer tool

Any one out there know who sales this tool,that works while motor is already in truck getting ready to prime oil pump on my 283 motor.

 

I would imagine an auto part store would have it. Or you could get one from Summit racing or Jegs. I had a long flat tip screwdriver that I stuck in the oil pump drive shaft and primed it by hand. Take your vavle covers off and make sure its getting to the top of the motor.

 

thanks Jermey going to parts store in morning to rent one that hooks up to the drill. I first tryed to use a old dist. shaft but it was too tall for the drill to hook up to it, fire wall in the wayjust got frustraded with that,I will use old 4 barrel carb until get my bed sold or get enough money to buy new one or find a good used 4 barrel carb.

 

Cool, that will be your best bet to rent one. If I find a good carb I'll let you know.

 

The Parts Store Has Them, There Very Cheap. Good To Have On Hand For Future Projects. Personnaly I Like To Buy Tools As I Need Them, Its Nice To Have Them Later, Garenteed, Youll Always Need Them Again.

 

I just picked one up at Autozone last week.. $20.00

 

An old distributor shaft also makes a cheap primer.

Old distributor shaft with a cut off allen wrench welded to the top, , take the gear off of shaft, cut the gear section off and put the remainder back on to hold it on the oil shaft. Save the aluminum body so you can use that to keep the shaft in place while priming........

I made one from an old freon jug, real easy, no drills involved

 

The "oil can" is a nice way to go. Especially if the engine is already in the vehicle. No need to pull the distributor.
