thanks for the mention! younguns like us do seem a little scarce, but we're artists! what do you expect! we work with our hands! jon
Coilover, here's one for you! While waiting on SWMBO to come home tonight, I was channel surfing tonight, and lo and behold, AMC is showing the 1950 movie "Born Yesterday" with Broderick Crawford, Judy Holliday and William Holden. What a great flick. I can imagine you and your honey "pitching woo" to that one! Then it dawned on me! Broderick Crawford, Chief Dan Mathews in "Highway Patrol". Drove the baddest '55 Buick Century ever was!
I remember "Night Court" (the real one). First color show: Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. Kennedy shot and watching Lee Harvey Oswald die live on national tv. Beatles on Sullivan Going to anti-war rally in NYC with Country Joe and the Fish (while I was in the service). First car: 1962 Comet named Kahotec (after the real comet). Windowpane acid. Owsley Stanley and Ken Kesey. Elephant bell bottoms. Watched the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center being built. Clacker balls (those stupid things that would break your wrist). Still have my original peace patch. Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana. Brian
Memory loss Windowpane, orange barrel, micro dot, black pyramid... It was all stuff you could take that would make the world look and feel like it only can when you've had some of this stuff. As an artist, I just had to EXPERIMENT Those were the daze... Add that with wild youth and I thank God I've made it this far!
Micro dot rings a bell now............never tried that stuff I do remember...........no I don't............drinking a case of beer and almost a gallon of hard cider during new years in 1980?...........and being sick for 3 days after....the sick part is what I remembered......not the hair of the dog.......... this will make you laugh.........I used to drink so much that I had a puke pan under my bed..........and it was a huge HUBCAP from a Ford LTD!!!!!!!!!! I new Fords were good for sumthin!!!!! LOL ps, the only funny part is obviously the hubcap, I should not be alive to tell this story......
I guess Iam 455 in dog years. Some of the things I remember are, seeing and riding in a new 57 chevey Bel Air Uncle Jakes show Prop air planes [Passenger} Cleveland air shows 28 cent gas No fast food Eucid Beach No car shows hot rods being built at the curb and painted in primer AS old as I am I still drive a 600 horse 57 chevy pu but now gas for it is over 5 bucks a gallion.[Cam 2}
This forum originally started with 'automotive milestones'. Does anyone know who invented the hideaway windshield wiper? Cause those of us in the snowbelt would like to .......well...........pummel them with a frozen one.......this....would be putting it nicely most rediculous invention ever come winter time!
My brother sent me an email lamenting the passing of one of our childhood heroes, Evel Knievel and he also let me know that Art Arfons also passed. Anybody remember him? He was the guy who bolted a helicopter turbine into ANYTHING. We loved when he came to the tractor pulls with his 23,000 rpm tractor....now that was cooool. I think he used the same approach in drags, Bonneville Salts, boats etc...............
I've got 2 more! I remember aluminum Christmas trees with the color wheel! Mom set it up 2 years ago and sent me pictures of it! Took me back to 1963 so fast it made my head spin! Last, but not least, who remembers 35MM slides instead of pictures printed on Kodak paper? The big event was to invite the neighbors over to see the "Family Vacation" from a Bell and Howell projector bought in Korea while dad was on TDY on a 4ftx6ft silver screen with smoke from non filtered Pall Malls and Camels filling the basement! Oh Yeah, baby!
I just set up an aluminum Christmas tree!... of course I just purchased it last year at Pier One Imports. What goes around comes around I guess BTW- I am not thirty yet.
"You knocked my Block off" They still make them. I bought Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robots for my kids last year for Christmas. Andy
Draper, SD I90 Wrench, I used to know this girl from Draper, probably graduated HS about the time you were born.
Well, you know how those Draper girls are! Seriously though, what was her name? I'm the 6th out of 7 kids (catholics..LOL) I'm sure I know the family. Later....
