Hi, all. I'm Russ, I have a problem. I can't stop building old Chevy trucks. I drive an ol' school custom 51 3600. I have built a 50 for a client, and am currently restoring a 53 for my uncle. It is an addiction. I see I have come to the right place. On top of all this, I am a mural artist by trade, a pinstriper on the side, and a general handyman because I'm too cheap to pay someone to do it for me. My website is www.rpettycustommurals.com. Here is my addiction... My little girl loves the truck...she has already claimed it. That is the 53 I'm restoring...
Welcome, Russ!!! Outstanding addiction you have there! And your girl is how old? She looks as animated as my 5 year old. Great photos! You found a great site here. Being an artist AND a handyman~ where have I heard that before? Too cool. You know you'll have to fess up what's under the hood on those, but for now, WELCOME! And thanks for the pictures!
A big welcome! North Carolina! Home of white BBQ sauce! Awesome stuff. Loved the pictures. Having 4 daughters and 1 granddaughter, definitely noticed the little one in the back of the truck! Precious! Look forward to learning from you and sharing stories!
Welcome Russ! I too am a truckaholic. It has been 30 days since I started and drove my truck. I fear I am about to backslide. Your truck(s) look great! I am just over the mountain in Kingsport. Good to have you here. Gater
It is running a 350/350 combo for now...I've got my eye on a 331 caddy built in the 50s, or a 472 caddy.....never enough, right? I have a fatman front end with airbags and dropped spindles, and a ford 8.8 rear from a 90 town car. 4 wheel discs, corvette master cylinder. Interior is horse blanket, 55 chev. steering wheel, old air hidden a/c, lokar tall shifter. what she started as... bought it in Florida, and I can see it on google earth in my uncle's driveway in Fla. and the shadow of it in my driveway....how many of you can see your truck from space???
(Chorus HI RUSS ! WELCOME to our world . I'm a truckaholic too , having owned old trucks since 1969...... Nice job on both trucks , I like the eyeball on the tailgate .
I love your artwork! The shot of under the hood~ you got it goin' on! That's just too cool AND too fun! Yes- you are an artist! I love the wide whites. What brand are they? That is exactly the look my truck will sport. Someday.
G!!! Just look at the fun you can have, G! Get another "in need" ride and do it SOON! We can't lose you! The problem you have is the $$$ you put into your ride! Get an old bolt, a roller, a mail box and a dual carby intake and have fun! Our memory may be shot (for whatever reason) but our sense of FUN isn't! Come on G! Shell out a few measly bucks and dive back in! Zig
NOW THAT'S COOOOOL. I gotta get my other projects outta the garage so I can get started on the ones in "dead-pecker row" Keep up the good work (Iwouldn't seek any help for your addiction)
The whites are cokers, I scored them for free from pinstripe clients, but I would reccommend Diamondbacks...much better, fresher tire, made from new production tires when you order. Great customer service, and drive a whole lot better. The bell is actually an old vehicle alarm found on a 70s shag van in Pull A PArt. The girl at the register was stumped as how to charge...so she gave it to me for free. Yeah, it works.
Russ, How did you do the horse blanket? I like the look and would appreciate some more pictures of how you did the inside of the doors, seat, etc. with some tips, tricks and advise. BTW, really nice work. Andy
Door panels cut full length from masonite, 3 m Super 99 spray adhesive on panel and material. Cut material about 3 inches past the edge of the pnel and wrap around the back side. Pie cut the corners to make them lay flat. Seat is just wrapped and stapled to wood strips screwed under the seat.
Talk about a FAST response! My kind of new guy! Thanks Russ, Not in horse country here and don't know much about horses other than the ones under my hood. Where can I get a coupla those blankets? What kind of supplier sells horse blankets. Andy
Come to Texas! We've got a gazillion of 'em. They're a dime a dozen down here. Any good mercado has 'em. Every color combination you could ever dream of!
EXCUSE ME Bruce ! But I didn't read where he said it was a ' problem ' , just he's a truckaholic...... -Nate BTW : I must say , for a guy who likes stock trucks , this one is pretty neat !
