Ok as you all should know I'm new to this stuff. The question that I have, right now the truck has single master cyclinder and one port is for brakes and the other is for clutch. When I convert over to a power booster and conventional master cylinder, Will I need to add a reservoir for clutch fluid? Or is there some way to use the new master cylinder and brake booster just like the old set up? Just got the Suburban after waiting for over a month.... It's Freaking Beautiful... OMG I feel like I should be wearing a patch over with one eye for what I paid for it... give you an idea... truck plus shipping 4300 I had it shipped from Rexburgh Idaho to Louisville KY 1922 miles... and 4300 is all I have in it... see the pic in the photo session.. Thanks!
Hi there new old truck man. I am presently doing the same thing to my 62. You will need, if keeping the hydraulic clutch, to buy the setup that I found at Classic Performance Parts. A bit pricey but all the thinking is all done for you. It is a 8 inch booster with a dual reservoir master cylinder and a seperate Wilwood clutch master mounted on the same bracket. As far as I know, they are the only company making these. Cost is $450 plus shipping. You will need to widen the firewall hole a little to the right and drill two additional holes to mount. Then you will have to seperate the front brake lines from the rear and run new lines up to the master. Their website is: www.classicperform.com
re: HYD Clutch Thanks Billy, At this time I'm planning on keeping it stock. with reference to the HYD Clutch. I'm still blown away at this truck...
You're welcome. I saw the truck pics.......looks nice. If I can figure out how, I'll put some of mine on soon, one with the booster setup.
re: hyd clutch have you looked or considered a wildwood or girling clutch reservoir. I see then and they are small. I wonder if they would work, like the one at CPP I bought the brake booster and master before the truck got here.. I know i'm a duma$$. So now i'm trying to make it work before I rip into it and find out that it's more than a weekend project. Thanks.. HEY get some pictures up? Yours a burb too? Got any extra window locks or know where there are some?
re: Hyd cluch Billy, Do you have your brake/clutch cylinder off the truck? If so is it a dual bowl? cause I'm thinking that I might beable to cut it and use end mill if it has divided bowls. Cut the brake side off and use end mill to cut side down to the back and then mount the Power booster and master cylinder just like CPP has in their kit. Let me know. I haven't had time to research mine. yet. Thanks....
Hi again. No burb on my end. Mine is a short stepside. The clutch master that comes with the CPP setup is a Wilwood unit. The stock one is off the truck and I think it is one reservoir w/2 pistons. I was going to try and come up with my own setup but I'm in a time crunch so I bought the CPP one.
Billybones Ok we are headed to the shop with the Burb for some work and for front end swapover to Disc brakes... I'm assuming that in the course of the last 4 nonths you got yours mounted and functioning... Please oh please can I get some pic's of the CPP stuff... I have been dilligently searching for a way around my hyd clutch and I'm thinking that I'm going to have to break down and buy CPP stuff too... I would love some shots of the setup on your truck.. I think that I could Fabricate firewall bracket and use the Wilwood cylinder but I have to see it... that is where the problem comes in... Save me and all the others out there with early 60's truck with hyd clutch.. I know that I'm asking alot, could you tell me the measurement of the mounting bracket width and depth to th firewall? Thanks....
Hi there, There is one pic in my gallery. Click on photos in the toolbar, click member galleries and click 'b' to find me. I can take some more pics and post them and then give you some measurements.
Dang, that looks Great... mine still has I6 and I kinda like it... But there is this little TPI 85 Vette 350 sitting in the shed waitng for me to find time to play with it and make it a little noiser.... No Rush on the measurements.... I CERTAINLY do Thank you for them though... I'm Probally going with the CPP stuff as well if the measurements don't turn out the way I hope... Thanks again..
I put pics of the setup in my gallery...........could not figure out how to get them in this forum. Did not fully read "Computers For Dummies" yet............
