Well, we didn't quite make the Christmas parade, (both she and the truck were a little sick) but granddaughter Emily and I have officially moved from the "old truck in the shop" stage to the "rolling restoration" stage. Got tags, insurance, new tires, and have been on a couple of short trips up the road. Lots of small things left to do still, and will take care of them on the warm days. I've posted a couple of pictures in the 1947-1954 gallery if anyone's interested. (Titled "On the Road Again 1 & 2")Like I said, still a ways to go, but getting better all the time!
Sweet!! Bob, ya done good!! Love everything about it! I'll bet the granddaughter will never have a pouty-face when she rides with grandpa in that truck!
Looks like there'll be a happy "santa' in Kentucky ridin around in a mighty nice AD pick-up. "Riding with Bob", I like it, reminds me of a Ray Benson tribute CD to Bob Wills. Jim
I just "PM'd" him! Asked for more pics! I want to see the engine compartment. For those who don't know, Bob was a B-52 mechanic in the Air Force. Do you suppose his will fly? Kudos again my man! I'm not far behind ya!
B-ute-iffull!!! Outstanding job! I know it's been a long road, but now you're ready for one! I agree with big brother, WE NEED ENGINE (and interior) photos. It's hard for my feeble brain to keep things straight between who's doing what, but isn't yours a T-5? Any rate, two thumbs up!
Here you go, Nate. https://talk.classicparts.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=868 https://talk.classicparts.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=869
Lotta Different Pix In there , pretty cool ! . I usta - did own & ride , a 1937 EL Knucklehead and a 1965 FL PanHead , both were pretty good bikes I rebuilt in stock form .
Beautiful! Wow Bob, You sure have it sitting up nice and proud. I like that! Beautiful, beautiful work!! Congrats! Bob
Thanks for the comments! The outside looks much better than the inside right now. I still need to put in the headliner, visors, arm rests, heater, glove box, floor mat, etc. Today may be the last warm day we have for awhile, so I plan to be at it most of the day. Yes, Zig, it has a T-5 in it. So far, no problems with that. The '70 Chevelle rear axle I had in it earlier had a crack in the axle tube and leaked. I was torn between welding it up, since I'd already put new bearings and seals in it, and just getting another axle. I ended up with an axle from an '87 GMC back there. Best thing after all.....same track width and wheel bolt pattern as the '79 Chevy front suspension. I'll post more pics later. Again, thanks for all the good words!
Drive that baby! I thought it was a T-5. I almost went that way, and you were there to help. Nate talked me into trying a different rear end and keeping my tranny. See "This old saw?" thread. That is too slick, though. Ya done good, Bob! I'd go out and set in mine and make driving sounds, but I don't have a steering wheel to even hold on to. (!)
