Uploaded some pics of my clean engine and new exhaust. Finished it yesterday and started her up this morning. It started on the first try (almost!!) Actually did once we rememberer to turn on the ignition switch:eek: Lots of little gas and oil leaks that we had to deal with. Biggest one was the oil filter that leaked when I raced the engine. Finally got it tightened enough after about an hour. When it first started there was a fair amount of white smoke, (this little beast has run very little over the last 25 years!) but that disappeared after about 30 minutes. Oil and Temp gauges work fine, but the ammeter jumps around a lot. Could be because we gined up a wiring harness to get her to run, could be something else. It ran smooth as long as the RPM's were over around 600. Below that there was a little miss. Played around with it some in the driveway, since there was too much traffic in the neighborhood. Will most likely take it around the block tomorrow:D:D (brakes are now great after the complete rebuild!)

    Big milestone passed!

That's one of the best days of a rebuilding project.....when it looks like you may actually get to drive the beast one of these days! Merry Christmas!

    Merry Christmas !

A nice little present to your self :)

Runs well @ speed but has crappy idle no matter what you tweak usually turns out to be spark plugs with too small a gap , they've gotts be .035' , bigger if you're running any typ of transistorized ignition or a hot coil (I highly recommend Accell's yellow Super Coils) .

As soon as you get it hot , stop and re-adjust the valves , hot oil change soon too .

    Congratulations and Merry Christmas!
It sure does feel good when you hit a milestone in the restoration timeline.
Thanks to the folks on this forum I got the heat riser spring installed correctly today and watched it work properly as the engine warmed up.
Tomorrow- new oil and valve adjustment.

Congrats! I've been there and it's a great personal victory. Making some thing old new again and when it works is the best reward ever! Carry on!!
