Hello all & I'm glad to have finally found this group. I am restoring a 66 chevy fleetside pickup. The cab has some severe rust on the front eyebrow and interior headliner, among other places. I'm looking to replace the cab unless somebody knows of a shop that can manufacture the piece I need. Does anybody have any ideas/advice?

Replace the cab. Rust where you described it has eaten away areas that can only be fabricated by hand, no patch panels available.

Also, if it's rusted that bad on the roof, it probably has spread to the hinge pillars, and floor. Rocker panels are probably shot as well. Floor and rocker patch panels are available, but NOT the hinge pillar.

Save time and money on labor and look for a doner cab that will need less work than that one.

I've been looking for a doner cab. The problem I have is this is a "free" project for a buddy who let me use his barn to restore my Jeep. I agreed to complete this project that somebody else started. They let the truck sit outside in primer for what appears to be several years. It wasn't untill after I made the agreement that I discovered the truck was rusting from below the primer. I had to strip it back down to bare metal and start over. If I had known at the time I would have declined.
The cab is the the only part that is still in paint. The floors are not that bad. There is some minor patch work that needs to be done on the passenger side. I have already removed the passenger side rocker panel and plan to do the driver side as well. I'll also replace both rear cab corners. One has already been cut out by somebody else. The "eyebrow", if that term is correct, is by far the worst part of the rust. There is no repairing it, it has to be replaced, or scrap the cab.
Going back to the original dilema. The owner is only willing to spend ~$400.00 on a doner cab. Is it possible to find a good doner cab for that kind of money? I live on the Gulf Coast, 50 miles south of Houston.

When doing your search try to stay away from the costal areas. They tend to have more rust. Also call around the junk yards maybe in the Huntsville area. I'm pretty sure the big city area aint going to have much.

My truck came from the gulf coast and had the same problem. Solution: lop the top off another cab at the a and b pillars and transplant. I don't say this is better than a cab change... but it is an option if you find a cheap cab that has the flaws in the right places.
