Putting together a shopping list. CP lists something called a Lower Door Seal retainer (part 03-061). My truck was pretty stripped when I got it so I am not sure what this exactly. CP's description is

"Original type steel strip. Screws to bottom edge of door to hold rubber in place."

Is this needed for the main door seal that goes all the way around the door or is there a separate lower door seal? I don't see such a seal listed in CP's catalog.

Also, I need to order a windshield seal. I have seen mentioned in this board the brand name of Steele. Not sure what CP sells. Have folks had good or bad experiences with what CP sells for this?

General consensus is that the CP window seal is just not a good product. Most guys on this site recommend the Steele Rubber Co. gasket. I have used them for over 30 years and have been very pleased with their products. I have had a b*tch of a time getting my windshield installed with the Steele product, however. Great product, but alll the glass guys say that new gaskets are a real bear to install. Too cold here to have another go at it before I decide to actually tow my truck to the heated glass place and leave it for them to install it. Three separate glass guys, four different attempts. Check my thread titled "windshield woes" for more info, especially from Coilover. Seems a really talented/experienced/knowledgable glass guy is what is needed in order to get a finished product that fits, looks good and doesn't leak.

Mike - My '48 has a seperate rubber piece at the door bottoms held in by this retainer. The rest of the door has an adhesive applied seal CP #03-011. Larry

Thanks for the replies. The CP description seems to match what you are saying about your truck. Going to call Classic Parts to see if the matching seal is available.

    Lower Door Seal

Yep , this metal retainer is a hard to find item , I found some rusty old ones that'll do O.K. for my '49 shop truck .

DO NOT use CP's rubber ! it's all Taiwanese crap and rots quickly , I bought thier windshild grommet (I'm poor) and it was incorrectly extruded , we had to cut it for the glass to fit , it leaks awfully .
