Yeah this came up a while back. They have improved their website now so they have more pics and stuff. I would think this would have gone over bigger if Chevy hadn't come out with their retro looking sportster that mimics the ADs.
Thanks for bringing it up though, it makes for a good thread to get folks comments. To me it just supports that our old trucks are classics.

Pretty cool. One thing I would change is the engine though. It's a, ahem, Ford. In fact, their service plan used Ford dealers. Seems like a risky choice considering the brand loyalty of most car guys. Putting a SBC in a Ford hot rod sure, but the other way around?

"The Southern 358, on the other hand, can be serviced close to your home by one of over 4,000 Ford dealers throughout the U.S. We have chosen the most reliable and serviceable components to reduce your chances of problems. The drivetrain, brake system, electric motors, switches, pumps, fuel system, wiring harnesses and a host of other components are extremely reliable and well stocked at most dealers. Now you can own a limited-production street rod with virtually trouble-free service."

    I Gotta Admit

That thing looks sorta cute (except for the stupid console , that was the very FIRST thing I ripped out of my '49) but still and all , I'd rather have a regular old AD truck with a nice InLine 6 Banger.....

That is true "tailgater" i like the old AD's, though mine is on steroids at 380Hp. Doesn't go to baseball games though. I think the satisfaction of tinkering outweighs anything else I can think of in a toy. I really enjoy my old truck born on my birthday year. It's had a few face lifts, unlike me, I could use one, but it is a blast to drive. :)

I don't see it as a big seller with the Ford drive train in it. It does have a lot of ideas to pilfer for your own truck and for 63 K a guy can build his own primo truck.

I have seen one of these, they are badass, but expensive. I built a truck for a client, and he had about $50G IN it. It would cost that to have a shop build one to that level, and you get a warranty and service........

These were originally supposed to have a Chevy drivetrain but GM couldn't ( or wouldn't ) supply and warrant them. Southern then went to F@%d and are able to get the engines & trannys ( with warranties).
There were a couple of articles about this around 6 months ago in (I believe) Classic Trucks.

I do like the 47 chevy sedan style grille. It shows what money can buy instead of restoring or building a trick truck. Don't get the ferd motor though? GM has some very nice crate motors these days. maybe some sort of agreement with Ford? Mel

Too bad the SSR didn't come this close to looking like an AD. This thing is nice, the f*^d drivetrain is regretable, but I really like the everything made in the USA part of the package.

I guess all of the metal body is new stuff they are making?

    Really nice looking custom.

Well, lets see. It is a very cool idea.........a 'new' old truck. Nice to see someone try what the rest of us would love to...........design and build a 'new' old vehicle..but with updated features. I see they went with Ford for the obvious....Ford is willing to supply the hobby market much more than GM is. Even though I'm a Chevy man............I never was able blow connecting rods out of the side of the block on any of my Fords like the Chevys I had. I recently drove my friends '05 Ford GT(40) with the supercharged OHC and all I could say was "HOLY SHIT!"..........the car is capable of gluing your body to any piece of the interior that you choose. My hat is off to Ford for making the rest play catch up with the retro Camaro and the Challenger too.

Buuuuut....if I was going to spend 63K..........I would build this myself for that WITH Chevy power! http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/canam/pics/canam14.jpg
