[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-24-05 AT 10:32 PM (CST)]This is way out there. has anyone ever tried this? Can a 57 stepside be mounted on a full size blazer/k20 later model pickup frame. does it have the same wheel base? My thought was to acquire and old 4x4 diesel and mount the body on. pehaps you need the 8' bed. This may be far fetched.
I really want to put a diesel my my '53 3800. Can you let me know how you come out on this? I intend to install mine in the frame rails versus swapping out frames.
6.2 diesel 4x4 [5790] My project is a 57 GMC lb stepside going onto a 90 GMC 4x4 with a 6.2 and 4l80e trans.
Dang, a diesel in an classic truck... That's tight!! I wish I had thought of that. That's cool. Maybe I'll do that to my next one.
6.2 how about 4.3 Diesel myascape: Back in the late 80's early 90's GM had a 4.3 v6 diesel. they were a good little engine except for the early ones had an oil leak from the corner of the head gaskets[correctable] and some had some glow plug controler issues[also correctable.] You can bolt a 200R4 or a 700R4 or most any GM trany with no adapter needed. The engine should fit between the orig.frame rails very nicely. I would recomend boxing the frame. I have one sitting in my shop from an 85 celeberty I had been planing a trike build with useing FWD trans and suspension.
