I'm trying to locate a starter for my 1958 V8 283. I haven't had much luck. It's a two bolt attachment to the block and the bolts are 2 7/8 inches on center. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Les
Go To Your local NAPA store they'll have it listed or can send yours out for rebuilding . Look in 'phone book under " Auto Electical Rebuilder " and _go_ here , they'll have it on the shelf . Me , I'd take it apart and replace the brushes , bushing and maybe the Bendix as your core is prolly better than what you'll receive on an exchange basis.... For SURE if they sell you an exchange , DO NOT turn in your old one untill the new one is in the truck and working for a week .
Like Nate says. Just get a starter for a small block chevy, with a turbo 350. You will need the bolts also(bolts from the bottom up) Probably can find them in the "help parts" section of your auto parts store. Thats a common starter. Chris
NOT A Problem ! Go to Car Quest or Parts Plus as both of those have good listings for older cars & trucks , order up a rebuilt one and pay the $20.00 core charge , when it comes in carry it away and don't go back . Or , wait a month (or as long as they permit) and put any old starter core in the box and return that for your core deposit if you need it back . -Nate
