Iv'e got a 55.1 3100 Chevy truck...three speed manual trans with a rear of trans leak. Short of explosives, any suggestion on getting old seal out? Bob

    Hi Bob!
I feel your pain. I don't know if anyone makes a "seal puller" but there is a tool called a gear puller. I have a nice one that I bought from Sears and it does a good job of ripping out seals that are stubborn. In your case you don't even have to fabricate something for the center screw to work against-- the transmission mainshaft will fill that function nicely. Be sure to use Liquid Wrench (NOT WD40!) on the seal seat and allow it to sit for a few minutes before starting to pull on the seal-- it will lessen the strain. If this doesn't work maybe you could ask the nice Snap On tool man if he has something in his catalogue that would do the job (and, no, I don't mean C4!) Hope this helps!
