Any of you messed with these springs? I can't figure out how/where to install them in the hinge. A picture would be worth a thousand words. Larry

Got one picture before my battery went dead, one tab of the spring goes in one part of the hinge and the other tab goes in the other part of the hinge. Chris

they are an extreme pain in the arse. One end of the spring fits in the top of the hinge pocket, the other in a hole in the top of the hinge. getting them in is one thing, getting them to stay is another...

    There's A Conspiracy , Folks......

And it revolves around Detroit's inability to make decent door check springs , this seems to affect all brands and years  .

Anyways , the easiest thing to do is buy a large cheap screwdriver and file a notch near the tip to facilitate installing the spring .

It's a PIA and when mine broke I just threw the stubs away .

I put new pins and bushings in my hinges, and had no problem getting the springs in as I put the hinges back together. The pins and bushings are pretty inexpensive, and if yours are worn at all, this might be the best time to rebuild the whole hinge. Might save time and effort in the long run. Just a thought.....
