I'v seen it all.....clamps that fall off, brazed studs, and attempted welds on cast iron and they all usually fail eventually....after some thought I came up with a idea on how to fix it....

Went to a local parts store yesterday and got a 2 pc. catalytic converter repair flange for a early 90's chevy caprice which has a 2 1/2 outlet on it....cost was about $20.00 seemed kind of steep to me but the list price was $42.00....I dont know what this world is coming to for pricing on some things !!!!!

It's the stamped steel type 3/16 thick.....They also make one that is formed from 1/2" round cold rolled which would of been better becuse the stamped one needed alot of trimming on the back side because of the throttle linkage.

trimming on the inside of the flange was needed also because the manifold's got a squared corner on it.

I needed to chop off the one good ear on the manifold because the new flange needed the same bolt location

But all in all it was a successfull repair as long as you are not concerned with originality but are concerned with reliability and functionality like me because it's going to be a low budget cruiser and occasional parts chaser.

Nate requested pics but I didnt get back to see the request until the job was done so I snapped a pic of the finished product so folks can get the basic idea.

Very cool. That sure looks like it will hold for a good long time. Nicely done and using your head. Certainly easier than replacing the manifold.

    Sweet !

That'd be a $2.95 Champ Item back in the old days but since it's a SMOG repair item they can gouge for as much as they like .

In any case , it looks like a good repair ! . I've never seen a deal like that before , THANK YOU Leon .
