I was out the other day taking a nice Cold weather cruise.Got the usual nods like we do.......pulled into a convenience store and was talking to a guy.He said "ya better change your licence plate". I asked why and he said 50 Chevys didn't have wing windows.I was told or read someplace years ago that SOME Chevs and SOME GMC s did indeed have the pull down handles and wing windows in 1950 "model year".If anyone has any valid proof/info please pass it along.
I can't vouch for GMC's, but to my knowledge, the only Chevy model year that had both vent windows and pull down handles was the '51 model.
My '52 G has pull down handles and wing windows. It also has moss on it's tailgate that has been painted red... This year or next, I'll be reworking these windows and it's the thought of that that makes me wish they were just the single window. But whatever~ I love the pull down handle and the thought of pissed off injured wasps and bees zinging into my cab and into my chest via the wide open wing window. All that extra air may allow me to resist adding AC. Right door or not, it's mine and I love 'em!
For Chevies It was indeed , a one year only thing , vent wings & pull down door handles . Never trust gas station boobs comments ~ they're all crazy fools like me Vent wings (originally called " No Drafts " ) are a very use full thing to have , as they imcrease cab ventilation , crack 'em in the rain or when it's freezing out to keep the wimdshield defrosted or to quickly remove smoke (you're stilla smoker ?!) . Reversing them in summer gives a nice blast of fresh air to help with evaporative cooling of the driver..... I sure wish my truck had 'em ! .
Meh Dang, oh well I also like the wing windows.... so they stay. Im not too surprised considering my VIN says I own a 50 GMC 1 TON CABOVER.LOL Still my baby, even if her pedigree is off.
