I am doing the hood of my truck and would like to take the bracket off that bolts to the brace going across the front of the truck and has the hood latch plate on it in order to sand and get the rust off. That plate is held by BIG rivets. Has anyone taken that off and when you put it back together what did you use? Thanks for your help!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jun-16-06 AT 02:51 AM (CST)]Good idea to get all of that apart to get to the hidden rust areas. Rivets can be drilled out and chisled off or gound off if you are carefull with the grinding wheel. As far as going back together, you could use bolts small slotted (with round tops) bolts with nylock nuts. I have used them to replace the big rivets in the chassis before. When tight just fill the slots with filler if you want to "fake out" the on-lookers.... A purist will catch the result and crita-size you but hey to each his own.
