I have a 55.1 chevy that I am installing a 292, I plan to use an offy 4 barrel intake and a stock cast iron HD-TD exhaust manifold with the rear exit 2 1/2, 3 bolt flange. I can see now that I am going to have a clearance problem between the second runner, the manifolds are touching. Is this a fixable problem? And I need some opinions on the best gaskets and hardware to use to install the intake and exahaust. I would like to do it right the first time. Redos are not fun. I speak from much experience.

? the exhaust manifold is touching it's runner to the intake manifold ? is that the problem ? .

Isn't there a multi carby intake available for 292's ? that'd be a much better setup as you'll get even fueling , a 4BBL in the middle gaurantees rich center cylinders and lean end cylinders on any InLine engine....

Pix of your setup would be nice .

Thanks, the exhaust and intake manifold is touching in one area, I understand that mutiple carbs would be better. I will be running a turbo 350 and air conditioning so I was thinking the kickdown set up and driveability may be better with a single four. As near as I can tell I have two choices if I want to keep the offy 4 barrel manifold. I can go to cast headers like fenton, clifford or langdon and use a water heater system for the carb. Or I can machine the manifolds so they will clear. I will try to post a pic of the set-up.

    Or , Door # 3 ~ The Better Choice

There's a guy in Texas who will make a Corvette exhaust manifold (dual outlet , no restrictior) out of your stock 235 one ~ these are WAYYYyyyy better than any Fenton or other tube typ headers as Fentons don't breathe correctly until the engine is going full tilt boogie ~ they're designed for racing not bombing 'round town where you have multiple stop lights .

Just a thunk ya know .

The kick down linkage , is it cable or hard linkage ? . I'd think a cable setup would be easy to fiangle to fit pretty much any carby set up .

Do what feels right for you but tractible power is what makes for a nice driver - not stumbly off idle hesitation then sudden balls out power @ 2,000 RPM .

Why not post your question over on The Inliner's saite ? they have all the Hot Rod info you'll ever need and have prolly gone through this very same issue before .

Keep at it , let us know how it turns out .
