Hi All, New to the form, and in need of some help. First some history; Recently purchased a 58 stepside from a guy that bought it back in 91. He had the 327 replaced with a completely machined, Align-borded, balancd and blue printed now 355cu.in. engine. Everything in the engine has been replaced. He spent just over 3K on engine that now has about 9150 miles on it. Gave me the file folder with the title. He has taken ok care of the old girl and has all documents to prove it. I won't go into any more details, just get to me question.
The truck still has the 6 lug setup for now. I just bought some ralley wheels, 7s and 8s. along with the police Bow-tie caps. My problem is I can tell after test fitting the front wheels that the caps will not fit over the stock hubs.
Called Wheel Vintiques and talked to one of there techs, said they have run into that problem before but had no real answer for me outside of exchanging my police caps for some bullet caps. (Not the look I was going for). Keeping all the stock suspension, but lowering with all new components.
Anybody have any ideas what caps I can use (besides the original)? Any help will be greatly appreciated. For $3500 I got a truck with good floor pans and very little rust. With a T-10 4spd shes fun to drive.}>

Hey Jesse, Thanks for the reply. Are you saying that the camaro caps, the ones that stick out about 2-3 inches are what you used and they fit fine? Did you have problems with lug nuts? I'm going to powder the wheels red at my nefew's shop myself before mounting the tires.

I was planning on doing the same thing, but was going to use the '56 cap from Wheel Vintiques. How far off were they? I am glad you asked the question before I ordered them.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON May-12-06 AT 02:27 AM (CST)] Rich, what is hitting?? Is it the lug nuts and studs, or the grease cap for the bearing? You can get shorter studs, up to a certain point, and there are several heights of caps too. You might still be able to make them work. On my rally rims, I am going with the disc brake caps, and they seem to fit fine. The Camaro derby caps would have plenty of clearance for the grease cap, but are a different look. Let us know...Mike

:) Hey Hammer and Mike, thanks for responding to my question. I have since solved my problem with the caps. I originally ordered the smooth Police caps with the Bowe-tie from Summit Racing,Good prices, those would not work because of the stock hub,(bearing cap). Lug nuts were ok. While attending the Plesenten Good-Guys, I found a vender called (HUB CAP ANNIE),(WWW.hubcapnetwork.com), got a set of 4 stainless steel Durby caps without Bowe-tie or GM writing for $65.00. They looked good and fit good too. Sent the other caps back to Summit and exchanged them for the trim rings. No problems with exchange and rings fit and look good. Here's a couple pic's, one before with the rusting chrome wheels and after with the rally's. If in question, they are 6 lug 7"and 8". I think they made a big differance in how the truck looks now. Thanks again guys, Any more questions just e-mail me.

PS. Have to send you pic's another way, Sorry

    Later, rich58
