I just got a surprise..Thought I could just take the the bolts to the metal strips out to replace my wood in my bed, but 1 row of bolts are hidden buy a cross beam from the frame. I noticed also 8 larger bolts holding the bed to the frame. If I take those 8 out will my bed come off..and will the side panels be attched? Nothing has been easy with this child. Thanks for anyones help Mike G

When I got my truck, the bed was completely rotted. I asked my son if he and his friends would like a few bucks to remove all of the wood. After that, I could get to everything. I ended up having to cut most of the bolts as they were rusted rather badly.

Those 8 large bolts with the offset washers are what actually hold it to the frame. The strips are just bolted into the cross members (with square nuts) which I consider to be part of the bed. If yours is like mine, the bed sides are welded to the rear bed sill and will have to be cut.

you are correct Fleet...welded to the rear bed sill..and also welded to the stud bumper..The Bumper I assume was added on by a farmer from Wyoming were the truck was bought..I am 3rd owner. I am not...refuse to cut anymore welds..I guess I will cut bolts..and wood and go from there. Its just been tuff lately..Everytime I turn around i have to buy more tools..more time..more cuts...oh well. I see you are in Boulder..I am in Westminster right off of 36...M/G
