    Heater Core Repairs

    Peter ;

    It depends on _which_ core you need as there's a couple of different heaters used .

    If it's just dripping , may I suggest servicing the cooling system then adding one tube of " Silver Seal " stop leak compound , found at NAPA stores and truck stops ~ this is the very same stuff used in brandy new cars as they're being manufactured by ALL the American manufacturers as it cannot clog the heater core and stops most leaks .

    Won't work if there's oil or rust in the coolant tho' .

    Good luck hunting , a couple years ago I saw a site selling new repop Harrison heater cores , I didn't bookmark it , sorry .

    Hi Peter,

    I went through the same problem. I took my round heater core out of the recirculating heater box and brought it to the local radiator shop along with my radiator. The core was shot and could not be repaired. They could not find a replacement core and I don't know of any that are available aftermarket. I wound up getting a fresh air heater, also with a bad core. Got a new, very pricey ($150.00) core for that. One guy on this site was getting rid of a complete recirculating heater set-up and I bought that from him as it was working and I was tired of the fresh air set-up. I will put in the recirculating heater set-up and use that while I am rebuilding and restoring the fresh air set-up. Heat in these trucks is problematic. Have you seen the prices for a rebuilt heater control valve? Lots of dollars. Every once in a while, I have seen an NOS round heater core go up for sale on eBay, but they tend to fetch LOTS of money as they are apparently very rare.

    Hey Peter,

    Come on now, let's not be selfish:D. Share your source, unless of course it was the only one he had. That was a good deal for sure.
