    ...since I was this high:).

    Doing the brakes this weekend with the kids. They are at their moms right now so I had some time to myself. The kids and I finished rebuilding the rear brakes yesterday. Today I started the fronts. Took all the bearings and other parts to my basement workshop and laid it all out on a huge commercial baking sheet and had at it with about two cans of brake cleaner. When I finally looked up after all the parts were thoroughly degreased I realized that I was definately and unmistakenly stoned out of my mind from the brake cleaner. My back was hurting from bending over so much doing the rear brakes outside that I thought doing it on my workbench would ease the strain. It eased the strain alright:D. No need for any adult beverages tonight. Attached is a "before" picture of the front passenger brakes. "After" picture coming soon.

    "Use in well ventilated area". Duh!!!:D

    The question is this:
    The shop manual talks about a "major" adjustment that should be done when overhauling the brakes like this. Is it necessary to adjust the anchor pin like the shop manual says to? I have Bendix brakes FYI.

    Dude, paint a flower on your cheek and go to bed!

    Not a good thing to do, you know that! Stick with alcohol! It only screws up your liver! The other stuff messes with more. Adjusting the anchor pin is easy. Do it, it's easy and assures that the shoes ride where they are supposed to.

    BTW, did you listen to Hendrix or Joplin after you did that?:rolleyes::cool::D

    Sounds like a fun time!!!

    After you reasemble the drums you will have to expand out the brakes so the pads are close to the drum. The hardest thing for me was trying to figure out which way to spin the star adjuster after everything was assembled. (maybe I also had to much brake cleaner now that I think about it!) Best if you play with the adjuster before you put the drum back on to make sure which way you turn it to get it to expand. After its all put together, expand it out until you can hear the pads rubbing on the drum and then back it off a couple of notches. Your brakes will then work great!!!

    Not with the headache I woke up with this morning:eek:!!! Toxic headache. Only way to clear it is to have my neck adjusted and it's Easter so no office hours today. I'll have to clear it by drinking tons of water instead.

    Happy Easter everyone.

    Anchor Pin

    Andy ;

    I don't adjust those , you'll need to make up a tool if you do , something out of PVC pipe that slips snugly over the splindle , rotates and touches the friction surface of the shoe then you'd adjust the anchor untill the touching tip , touches the shoe evenly from top to bottom .

    Just adjust carefully and remember to re-adjust as the shoes bed in .

    The adjusters are easy to remember wich way to turn : you're trying to unscrew the star off the bolt holding the shoe....

    Nice to hear you had a good day with the kids ! :)
