Hi Im new to the forum and have a quick and hopefully not to dumb of a question. I just bought a 56 chevy 3100 and the bed looks longer than some that I have seen. Do people make the beds shorter or am I just seeing things?
A 3100 should have a short bed (skid strips around 6'5" long) and a wheelbase of 114". A 3200 (like my GMC 102) is still a 1/2 ton truck, but has a 123" wheelbase and a longer bed, the additional 9" is between the front of the bed and the center of the back tire. Bed length 7' 5". There was also an optional 8' (actual inside front to back deminsion was 97+") bed at least for GMC. I'm not sure if Chevy offered it or not. This bed also went on the 123" wheelbase frame. The additional 8" was from the center of the back tire to the tailgate. All three lengths used the same rear fenders. Check the wheelbase of your new truck. Could be that someone put a cab with 3100 markings on a 3200 chassis.

Long Bed I just found out by my title, that my truck is a 1/2 ton long bed (32b). Does anyone know what is the length difference?
three 1956 trucks / what do I have? 3 56 chevy trucks long wheel base plus a 97" bed is to short grills have large steel grill guard bolted to bumper truck beds were missing 13 leafs on rear-ends frame is 7 1/2" tall X 3" wide looking for swb or lwb if this is an oddball truck
