I was wondering if anyone could give me some help on where to find parts for a 51 chevy 2 ton with a dump bed. Just a little histroy of the truck, it was given to me by my late grandfather and i want to restore it and all i can find is "pickup" parts. I assume that one ton parts will work to an extent but would like some further help from someone that has experinence in the area thanks
Levi, welcome! My advise to you would be to go to the bunch over at Stovebolt. John is the resident expert on Big Bolts. They have a lot of knowledge on big trucks. Their website is www.stovebolt.com With that said, however, we'd like to see pictures of your trucks and let it be known that, we too, are very interested and love to give advise too!
My avatar pic is the only one i have right now but will get some the next time i'm in childress. thanks for the help
So Then ; It's a 3800 ? . You'll be glad to know that the engine parts and gearbox parts are the same as pickups.... All the cab stuff is the same too but the front end sheet metal is all different . Lots of these ' Big 'Bolts ' out there on farms just rotting away so parts tend to be increidbly cheap . I envy you getting Grampa's old truck . Work slowly and diligently , you'll have a killer monument to Gramps that you can use and share with your kids . Resist the urge to tear it all aprt , most of the time this results in the truck getting junked after several frustrating , expen$ive years... Make it run , do the brakes , powder coat the wheels and drive it whilst you're sorting out the rest .
I believe its a 3800 but not real sure i don't have any papers on the truck but the title and all it says is 2 ton. thanks for all the help.
Year & Model Info ....Is all right there in the VIN , copy it down from the data plate in the driver's side door post ('A' Pillar) and folks here or on Inliners can decode it for you , tells you that year it was built , what plant (geographical location) and when the chassis weight rating is .
