hi, ive got a 55 2nd series 3100 pu. i am planning on doing a resto/rod job on it. i am trying to figure out what i could use for a steering column. i am trying to stay away from the aftermarket steering columns (too expensive) and would prefer to use something i can pull off a donor car. can anyone give me any suggestions as to what i can pull on off of, and how i will need to modify the column/truck? thanks, i appreciate the help. sincerely clark
RE: 55 chevy 2nd series steering co You might want to take a look at the 68-72 Chevy/GMC trucks there columns are just the right length and you can find one with tilt and your ignition key is still in the dash. Jesse Hazell Chevy Duty Tech.

RE: 55 chevy 2nd series steering co Check out this link from the Classic Truck Shop Tilt Wheel / Swing Pedal Brake http://www.classictruckshop.com/Tilt_Column_Brake.asp >hi, >ive got a 55 2nd series 3100 pu. i am planning on doing a >resto/rod job on it. i am trying to figure out what i could >use for a steering column. i am trying to stay away from the >aftermarket steering columns (too expensive) and would >prefer to use something i can pull off a donor car. can >anyone give me any suggestions as to what i can pull on off >of, and how i will need to modify the column/truck? thanks, >i appreciate the help. >sincerely >clark
RE: 55 chevy 2nd series steering co im looking for a all metal colum with the tilt option for a 56chey with a floorshift? What have you guys found that works the best in this type of application.I have a colum out of a 88 blazer but i do not like the plastic covers so im looking for an older metal colum
RE: 55 chevy 2nd series steering co if the steering wheel off a 68-72 chevy will bolt in a 55 2nd Series, it is safe to think that the same steering column will work in a 59???
RE: 55 chevy 2nd series steering co Thomas, what are you hooking the column too? original box?, newer ifs conversion? I'm in a similar situation. I've done a Volare ifs clip. I haven't got a column yet but I've gathered some suggestions from what others have used that include: late 70's gm van (tilt, no key, no gearshift, 35" long) 80's gm van 79 pontiac car 83 grand prix 68-72 gm truck ( tilt and no key) I guess whatever works best will depend on what front end you have, whether you want a column shift and whether you want a column key or not. Tilt is a good thing because you can tuck the column up tighter under the dash and tilt the wheel down. I guess some newer columns will also have cruise and wipers on the signal you may or may not want. Murray
