I have a 57 3100 that has a 55/56 grille. I bought a 57 grille to put in. But I can't find where the bottom of the grille is bolted on. Does the lower filler panel between the bumper and the grille have to come off? Anybody done this before? Or just taken the grille out of a 55/56 - it would be the same.
1957 to 55-56 Grille I am sorry to tell you this but the 57 grill will not just bolt in like you think it should. The fenders and the uppr and lower filler panels are different and not interchangeble. The 55-56 are the same but the 1957 is different and the panels and fenders are 57 only.
Replacing grille I'm not sure I understand. I'm putting a 57 grille back into a 57 pickup. The problem I'm having is getting the 55/56 grille out. The 57 grille should then just bolt right in, shouldn't it?
That's the conclusion I've come to also, after I posted that last message. Hope to hell I can send the 57 grille back and get $$$ refunded.
You can use either grill in all three trucks, (55-57) the only difference being that the '57 fenders had a little notch taken out of them to clear the flair at the bottom for the "teeth" I am sure there is a bolt you may be missing, and yes, I have done this with my own truck, a '57 3100, because the '57 grill looks like ass unless its chrome.
best way i have found to do anything grill related is to remove the sheet metal where the hood latch is and remove both filler panels from the fenders then bolt the new grill to the filler panels then reinsert
Hey, If you do not have notches in the front of the fenders where the grill for 1957 (only)goes you will not be bolten that 57 grill onto 55-56 front fenders any time soon. The 57 front fenders had a notch with a hole and the 55-56 front fenders did not. Cliff
