Got the truck inspected on Saturday and now I'm 100% legal. Have been cruisen it around this weekend and its running better than I would have believed. Seems to get better the more I drive it Actually, I think its just me getting use to driving a 52 truck compared to my 2007 truck. Definitely a big difference, the 52 is a lot more fun to drive I do have one funny sound coming from below. It sounds like a fast ticking sound. At first I thought it was coming from the speedo, but it appears to go away when I push in the clutch. Any one have an idea on what this might be
Sounds that go away when you push in the clutch are often associated with the throwout bearing. Question: Does your clutch pedal come all the way up when you take your foot off of the clutch? If it doesn't, does the noise go away when you grab the clutch pedal and pull it to the all the way up position? If the noise goes away you are probably missing the spring that is supposed to return your pedal to the all the way up position.
What Bill Said ~ It is critical for the clutch pedal to return to the backside of the floorboard with a " thump " . then there should be about 1/4" ~ 1" free movement when you depress the pedal with your hand before you feel anything moving , this is the ' free play ' in the clutch adjustment and is very important . The coiled part of the spring must be rather long as it extends a long ways and regular return springs will give up in short order .
Clutch spring Checked the clutch and it does spring back good and hard with a thump, and it does have about an inch of play before you can feel it kick in. I'll do some more cruisen this weekend and see what other symtoms I can find. Thanks for the tips! Now that the truck is driving, I"ll have lots of opportunity to work out bugs.
Big Bugs Zig, the sound was not a clown, I'm in Texas we we have very big bugs. Run them over and you get all kinds of noise. We even have Jackelopes here.
