I have a '55.1 so the bed is a little different than the '47-'53 bed. I bought the bed wood kit pre-drilled from our host and finished it with the kids and it looks beautiful. It will be the nicest part of the truck.

However, I think that CP may not have drilled all the mounting holes the wood needs. The outer most boards that take the offset washers to bolt to the bed have only two offset washer holes drilled towards the rear of the bed. Doesn't there need to be another offset washer hole very close to the front of the bed to bolt all the way through the wood and both flanges of the frame? The kids and I will be putting the bed on this week and I need to know before we install it so I can drill additional holes if needed.

Andy, I can go over to a friend of mine and snap some pics of his '54 later this morning (if he is home). I'll call in a couple of hours...it's 5:30 here.

    Thanks Bob,

Looking forward to seeing those pics. I am pretty sure I need to drill those holes near the front of the bed on the outside boards, but would like to know for sure before I do it. Just to be sure, I THINK the outside boards need a total of three offset washer holes each.

Andy, on my 52, its board #2 that has the hole at the front of the bed. Board #1 is skinny, board #2 is wide.

Just looking at BillyBob's site and it looks like his has the front one on the second board too. Looks like the frame is narrower up there so it will fit the second board, not the outside board.

On my '50, I have a total of six

The front 2 are on the second boards, the back and middle 2 are on the first board. Now remember that mine is different from yours by design, but here's a shot of mine during mockup.

    Good luck and send pics!

Andy, checked with my '54 buddy on the phone just now. His are the same as everyone else here...two towards the rear on the outside board, front one on the second board. Still need more pictures, let me know. He is real closeby.

    Huh ?

You guys don't just drop a sheet of Marine grade plywood over the old rotten boards ?

    :p

    :D

If I ever get rich..... it'll be Southern Hard Pine in mine but better black paint .

    Nate,

Believe me, if I HAD any old, rotten boards in the truck when I got it, that's exactly what I would have done:D.

Thanks everyone for setting me straight. Re-checked the wood that was stacked up and ready and saw that the FRONT hole is indeed on a different board than the two rear holes due to the narrowing of the frame at the front of the bed. Thanks Bob (1952bowtie) for pointing that out. Now we can start the install, hopefully today after double-header baseball with number one son.
