Hey all, just wanted to ask this. What years seats are pretty much a drop in? Somebody has done the math on this I'm sure. I have to get a spring fix kit or a new seat bottom to make my stocker right, but in the mean time... what would be a viable alternative? Thanks~ Bob
Ok, I can take a hint! I went ahead and dropped the same ol' seat back in after replacing the rusted-in-two float unit....
Oops ! Sorry ,,, I missed this post. To answer the original question,, a LOT of Chevy / GMC seats are a drop in, minus drilling a hole or two. From 70's thru 90's, Bench, 60/40 split bench will go right in and fit good. I have used both late 70's and early 90's 60/40 split bench in the panel. The bad news is that even used and looking like cats have been using them, they are getting a high price at swap meets, e-Bay etc.... There are a few pictures of the early 90's seat in my panel under my account here in the photo gallery. That one came out of an extended cab pickup and features a fold down center arm rest with storage console. Val
Thank you, sir. I've had a problem in the past finding seats that fit in a narrow cab (53, Ranger fits good) but I haven't considered one for the 66 until I had it out again to repair the gas tank sending unit. I still want the orig. look but with a bit more comfort if that's possible. I'll keep an eye out for a decent one at the junkyard to recover. Here's a pic of a past project when I started...we got a deal on 20 yards of red crushed velvet...this truck was camaro clipped and had a stroker 383\T350 w/4:11 posi. Vintage air helped out in the heat too. Felt like you were in a very fast coffin....
I have a seat listed in the part section for $100. but now I'll take best offer. The seat come out of a 1964 c-10. thanks
That's not a bad starting price, and I am about 50 miles north of Dallas, only the TEXAS one! Where'bouts is Dallas, GA.?
Dallas Ga. is northwest of Atlanta about 20 miles. The shipping charge might be the kicker. I grew up north of Longview Tx. Nice part of the country you live I really miss the quiet life of Texas.
Yep, Texas does have it's moments. Unless you have to drive in the DFW metromess! Thanks for the offer, Greg65, but your'e right, shipping would put that $100 seat out of my price range. I have recovered this one before, and I just need to respring the drivers side to make it perfect, so no biggie to do it again. Thanks too, for the comment on the 53, 283man! Let me say that when we *my son and I* had that truck on the road, nothing could hang with it in the marked quartermile outside our little burg...mustangs, camaros, what have you. Busted a tranny case, as well as other parts, money got tight, it got parted out and now has new ownership somewhere south of Dallas!~ Rust never sleeps!
Bobcat, not a problem. I thinking of taking it off the classified listings because of no interest. If nothing else my bulldog will have a place to sit while helping work on the 65. thanks Greg
