Those are little birds that run along the beach, right?:D

Sorry~ we won't give you any info unless you post pictures of your ride.

Or- someone will tell you the answer to your questions. I'm thinking the flywheel might be a problem, but hey~ it's me!
    Good luck with your quest.

That's a very good question as I've heard both yes and no .

    Last summer I found a 1969 1/2 T. City truck in a junkyard , it had a 292 InLine 6 Banger and the Muncie SM420 tranny...

So I'd hazard a guess and say measure the flange and then count the splines in the clutch disc , changing out the clutch disc is nothing but some of the input bearing retainers are different as are some of the input shaft lengths ~ when I were a farm mechanic , I'd just go to the scrap pile and lay out all the parts I wanted to use and begin matching ~ I was able to cobble up a lot of stuff that ' experts ' said wouldn't fit .

Why not just buy a big old Muncie SM420 four speed tranny from one of the Task Force guys? they give them away and toss them in the scrap bin so getting a good one for cheap shouldn't be difficult , it'll bolt right up and has synchromesh on the three gears you'll be using 95 % of the time , when you're heavily loaded and need to use grany low , you'l soon learn to have " happy feet" and double - clutch your way into 2nd gear without any crunching...

I hope this helps , if not Even or one of the real mechanics will shortly come along to advise you better .

I think you will have to change out the bell housing, the non sincro transmissions had a differant bolt pattern. I changed out a non sincro unit in a 46 1-1/2 ton to a sm420 and had to change out the bellhousing as well. IIRC the front of the trans is close to the tranny crossmember. As nate said sm420 is a better choise for your truck, the sm465 is larger and will cause new space issues. Chris

    Az. Truck Parts

...I left it there , I'da happily bought the truck as it was a cherry .

They were _expen$ive_ ! I had to argue to get just the -lid- (with backup lightswitch) for $50.00 , they wanted $65.00 ! .

    ZOUNDS ! A good running 292 6 Banger is only $500.00 or so , less @ Pick-A-Part , I was afraid to task what they'd get .

The 292 won't go into a pre ~ 1955 truck without changing it to V-8 motor mounts etc. .

Task Force is the 1955 ~ 1959 series of trucks and they have a page right here , they're constantly tearing up perfectly good 6 cylinder trucks for Hot Rods so the engines and trannies are cheaper than dirt as no one wants them

Those are two fine looking trucks, too! Thanks for posting those for us! (we have good imaginations here, but there's nothing like a good photo!);)

Hmmmm, St. Joe? I guess I'll be meeting a 4th member of this site!
