I have been reading the discussions on this website for several years, but this is the first time I have submitted questions. I am stuck on a detail in painting the cab of my '51 Chevy 5-window. 1. Where is the dividing line between the interior and exterior paint? I have been told two different things. I always thought it was at the windlace track, but I have seen trucks with the hinge posts painted with the interior paint. Unfortunately, I do not remember what color was underneath the ID plate. 2. Where is the dividing line at the bottom of the door opening? Again, I think it is at the lower cab windlace retainer. 3. Where is the dividing line on the doors? Is it where the door seals are or is it where the door outer skin ends? Thanks everyone! Greg
Thank you Ken. I actually looked at your pic file after I posted my question today and saw the ones after you had finished. As far as you know, is this the "Original" factory paint pattern? Greg
Ken has done his homework Ken is close to original with his entire build (except the 235). For this he has been excused. Where are you in TX, Glen? Post some pics. How I painted my cab and doors on my 54...the way I thought they looked best and the way I recalled them from long ago {and just like Ken's}. It's your truck. Jim
Re: Paint question In Tom Brownell's book, "How to Restore Your Chevrolet Pickup', it states on pg 148--"The division point between interior and exterior colors is where the exterior skin ends", which looks like about where Ken has his.
Where the exterior skin meets the inner panels is the division line. the lower kick panel under the door is also the interior color. Look on stovebolt.com for paint codes...The interior is semi gloss metallic grey, the color of the dark stripes in the speaker cover and glove box. the steering column is a brownish tan. I ordered my paints from Jim Carter, and they match the remaining factory pieces perfectly.
Panel Interiors Are these the same colors used on the panel trucks. I see they have a gray listed just for the mast jacket and shifter. Kens50pu is sure sharp looking. Wish I was this far along.
