Ok I can't afford the whole kit so... I want to get the 2and1/2 dropped spindles only for my 62. What would be ideal is to get rotors and calipers from a 67-72 6 lug junker so I can use the stock wheel my understanding is the diameter of the later year lugs is their bigger so could I drill the wheel lug hole bigger also does anyone know if the pattern is the same:confused:

i believe only '71-'72 had disc brakes and they are 5 lug. you can get 6 lug rotors from several companys.
CPP sells them along with complete disc brake kits.
where are you located? there is a fella on another forum selling some drop spindles to fit your '62

I'm not sure that is ideal. If you did find those they would likely need to be rebuilt anyway. New rotors are not all that expensive.

The lug pattern is 6 on 5 and they are pretty much the same. 72 was the first year for disk brakes and they were six lug. The problem with later 6 lug wheels is the opening for the grease cups are too small, not the lug pattern.

If you don't mind a suggestion, look for a truck disk brake front crossmember and swap that in with the spindles and control arms. Forget the dropped spindles for now, you can do those later. Use a set of 2 inch drop springs instead. Since the real high wear components are the calipers, rotors and brake lines replace/rebuild those. Remember that you will also need the master cylinder and proportioning valve too.

Another suggestion is do NOT try to do brakes or steering on the cheap !! Your life is worth more than the few dollars you might be able to save !!

I beg to differ, 6 lug bolt pattern is 6 on 5.5, '71 was the first year for disc brakes on the trucks, and they are 5 lug, 5 on 5 to be precise

oh and I believe Sixty Two is referring to the lug stud diameter, the older ones were 7/16", I think, and the newer went to 1/2" before they went metric. I'm not sure if you would have to drill your stock wheels to fit the 1/2" lugs, or not

Not to jump in but the disc brake set up on my truck come off of a 1971 chevrolet long wheel base with a leaf spring suspension. It was five lug. The bolt pattern was as Joe said 5 on 5. I thought the rearend was odd for that truck. I do remember that the leaf spring housing was wider than the coil spring. My lowering kit come from Early Classic which included everything to drop it four in the front and six in the rear. I do agree with Val on the safety issue for brakes and steering

I'm with Val on this...you might end up paying the same amount, or more to rebuild the stuff you pull off of a junker - and the parts would still be almost 40 years old. As far as the lugs (I would stay away as much as possible from drilling on your wheels, unless you do it on a mill), you can press in just about any size wheel stud...just double check the knurl diameter.

Thanks everyone Yeah I kinda like living, Certainly I'm not trying to be unsafe I'll probably just get everything piece by piece new. That said I really want to stay with the stock 6 lug pattern cuz I paid a lot to restore the original wheels including powdercoating. The rotors cpp has says their oem however stud diameter might be different:)
