[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-05 AT 09:14 PM (CST)]If one was lucky enough to have a choice. Which would make for the better restoration out of two condition 4 57 3100's? A 283 (180hp) or 235 (140hp)? Anyone have some pros and cons.

the 283 had a unique engine mount for that year. Why? The overall hp and torque not that great. 23%(stock) But the v8 has more potential

are there any break down of percentage of production for v8's that year?

Burned out on the research. and only want to put 6-7k in.here NY, CT,

283's are plentiful and very strong.Aftermarket parts for most any 350 will fit, which makes them very flexible.

    Vin#v3a57k112204,Block# 3789935, engine code F1113D, Heads# 3814480/k107, manifold#3746826,exhaust 3749965, carb#7020008
it appears that the engine could of been replaced in 1961
    Carb

    3789935....283... 61-64...2 (AS FAR BACK AS 1958)
    3814480....283/327.60-67....70cc chambers, 1.72/1.5 valves
    3746829 1958-61
    3749965 1958-61
    f1113d EITHER 58 OR 60

Don't know if this is original engine or block, It must have been rebuilt in 60-61. Kind of bummed. Does it make any difference?

I ran the casting numbers you have posted and you have a 1961-64 283 small block v-8, and for the heads you have a 60-67 283 or 327 70cc chambered heads.
