Cool find!! That is the next truck that I want after I finish all of my present stuff. Keep us posted on your progress.
Good looking truck 66 Kustom!!Good project .its well worth time and money even if takes a while. thats way Im going on 63 we just got slow no rushing.
thanks time, thanks 283. ive been wanting to get into the older trucks and cars for a long time, id like to get ones even older then this one, like in the 30's. i to just take it slow and do what i can when i can, problem is, is im running out of places to park, with this one going on the driveway, my daily driver will end up on the street, plus two trailer will end up at the inlaws pole barn. but dont worry, the wifey's jeep still has a place close to the house. ill take more picks this weekend after i pull it out of the forest.
That's going to be a lot of fun. I doubt I'll ever be "finished" with my '61, but I'd love to get my hands on one of the older body styles. Good luck! Keep us updated.
Sure will!! i know what you meant about never being done, my 66 5year project is just now getting painted, maybe on the road next year. (i hope and pray!!)
You guys have AD envy! Hey 66 KUSTOM, great find! Trust me, you'll love your new project. Come check us out on the 47-54 forum. We've been there, done that on these classics. Don't get me wrong, I love the 60-66 trucks (had a few), but the AD's rule! C'mon down!
That's awesome man!! There's a vintage car place local to me that has one with a flatbed, and I've been steadily drooling over it. Good luck!!
thanks KENS 50 ill deffenitly be visiting you guys constintly!! im really looking forward this AD truck!! ill be com'n on down!! id be drooling too drjenkins!! ill be sure to get some pics this weekend Morton, i went out last night, cut about seven trees, got five bee stings, aired up the tires and yanked it out of the woods and pulled it over to the barn. took about an hour and a bit of cusing!! but shes out and ready for the trailer tomorrow.
those bees arent nice they dont like their home beening botheredlast year when I went to 62short steps house to pick up 66 truck bought off his brother in law bunch of wasptook over the truck (62 short step) Jermey got stung couple of times was worreid about him for while,he was swallowen for little time after that..
Dang, that sucks 283. i was fortunate enough that i didnt swell or anything, just a few curse words and a swat of my hat. i dont think it helped though dennis, your wife wants it? if she gets the truck well finally get to meet each other in person. i think my wife wants it too, she cant decide which truck she likes better, 53 or 66. shes saying 66 right now but i think thats because its nearly done and she likes it when i come in from the shop for awhile and spend some time in the house.... go figure
My guess from looking at the pics is that you probably have a '51 or '52. The fact that it has vent windows on the door makes it at least a '51 (first year for vent windows). If it has pull down outer doors handles, it is definitely a '51, if it has push button door handles, '52 or newer. Can't wait to see some more pics! Ken
thanks Kens 50. im thinking its a 52 of 53 also. i believe the 54 is a one peice wraping windshield with different grill, correct me if im wron. this truck has push button out door handles, single cowl vent in the center. it is (was) shift on the column (three on the tree) the speedometer reads 90mph. chevrolet emblem on front center of the hood, chevrolet thriftmaster on the side of the hood. it as the brownish maroon window crank knobs too. i brought her home today and cleaned 20 years of tree and debris out the interior/exterior and pressure washed the slim of the outside. fortunalty it had a fresh coat of primer before it was parked so theres minamal exterior damage. (small hole in the roof) and couple of dents, im sure ill find more. im going to start gathering some questions here in the next couple of weeks for everyone in the 47-53 forum, i already have a handful but ill wait to ask after i check out the truck more closley. thanks again Kens 50. p.s. ken, thats a very nice looking truck you have in your avatar!!
Sweet! Wow! That looks to be in really good shape! Look for the ID plate on the A pillar driver's side. Post the serial number and I'll decipher it for you. Did you get the running boards too? Ken
unfortunatly no running boards, it did come with the sheetmetal that goes just above the running boards on the bed though. serial # is H530001940. is this also the vin? if not where might i find the vin#? thanks Kens 50, i truly appriciate it!! what all has to be done to fit in a 350sb? do you have to change out the steering column for the room to fit it in? and how do you tell if someone has already converted it to 12 volt? thanks again!! after you respond ill move over to the 47-54 forum.
The "H" stands for 1/2 ton 116" wb, "53" designates the year, "O" means it was built at the Oakland, Ca assembly plant, and "001940" means that it was the 939th truck to roll off of the line. Evan, aka Coilover is the guy to talk to on the forum about dropping a 350sb in your truck. He's been doing it for a living for years now. Mods will most likely be necessary on the steering column. As far as whether or not it's been converted to 12 volt, check for resistors going to the fuel sender, heater, radio, etc, as they would all need to be protected from 12 volts. Check the headlights and lamps to see if they are labeled 6v or 12 v. Check part # on generator also. (I'm assuming here that it still has a motor) Looking forward to seeing you on the 47-53 forum. Ken
thanks again for all your help, ill reply to your message in the 47-53 forum. thanks to you i can finally say "i own a 53"
