Hello, i need your help. I installed the temp gauge today and i think i make a mistake. I cut the line from gauge to engine and thought i can solder the cutted line together. I hold my soldering iron on the gauge and it works fine. After a little bit of soldering air runs out of the line. After this air noise the gauge doesnt work. It's the line filled with air?? And how can i repair the temp. gauge??? Volker
Capillary tube The line is actually a gas filled capillary tube. I'm not aware of anything that can be done with it, short of replacing it. There might be some folks out there that know how to it, so don't give up yet!
Bourdon Tube Temperature Gauges It was filled with Ether and when you cut it , that killed it . I have heard some places repair/restore these . I see them for sale N.O.S. once in a while , $100.00 and up . When you're installing one of these , it is important to hold the tube part from turning as you tighten up the nut .
gauge Could you help me buying this part in the US?. My next trip to the US needs alittle bit of time. approx. Spring next year. I think it's not a problem to send money to you if you have found the part.
_DECO_ Gauges I am not sure The Truck Shop has the temp gauge for a '41 ~ '46 3100..... I know they have a few misc. N.O.S. gauges but they told me $125.00 and UP last time I was there a year ago , I didn't see any for Volker's truck at that time .
Thanks Nate I think the best option is i buy a digital temp gauge and place this under the dash. I read in Jim Carters catalog they offer a rebuild service for temp gauges. If its winter in germany i send the temp gauge to JP they can rebuild this. grrr a lot of money again but i need all gauges in perfect condition
guage repair Hi, check out classic/vintage guage repair guys on the web in germany, im sure there are a few over in england who repair the tubes on classic cars and im sure someone in your country must offer this service.
Expansion I think ive heard that you have to keep the tube as cold as possible while repairing as the heat causes the gas to expand while you repair leaving it below atmospheric pressure when sealed, so it will not work.
Rebuilt guage Volker, Jim Carter has the whole shooting match for $75 + core. Looks like it comes with all fittings, the tube and a rebuilt guage with a new decal.
