I'm not sure exactly what it is you want to know about the motor and I'm not much of a nuts & bolts guy myself but here are a couple of links to check out. Maybe they can help point you in the direction you want: For Specs http://raceseek.com/chevy_v-8.htm History of Chevy Engines http://antiquechevytrucks.com/Content/Engine%20Information/engine_intro_body.htm http://www.chevytrucks.org/resources/history_of_chevy_trucks.htm
the 265 was the predecessor of the the 283,and only the bore is different as far as i remember.read any manual on the 283 and you probably will know anything you want to know about your 265.
depends on how many horses you want?? I used a 283 with fuelie heads that was overbored .060,with a big cam, carb, intake, mallory unilite, and msd a6 box for years. It worked ok but I still felt that 250-275 horses was weak.I would go ahead and use a 350 if you are not going to stay stock, but most 350 accessories seem to fit the smaller older motors.I had a new engine built from a 350 which has an advantage-it uses modern chevy heads instead of antique tech.Furthermore- a modern crate engine works well,as long as you get modern accessory brackets instead of the antique stuff that I used.
This truck is just a fun truck and I don't want to spend much money so I am trying to use what I have available for cheap. My next question is: Will a T350 fit on the back(Ihave one for free)? Sorry for All the questions, but this is new to me. The last 15 years have been spent restoring a stock 1953 3100. I don't know much about these "modern" machines.
The 265 and 283 will bolt up to the T350. You may have to modify your driveline and will need to add the tranny mount. Mike
