I bought this column off of craigslist it's from an 84 chevy, wires and connectors match up great but I don't know what this one single wire on the other side is for.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

Does it have cruise control? That's what that connector looks like to me.

No, the column only has a tilt no cruise or wiper controls on the column at all. Could this go to the tranny? I have the stock TH350 in mine but I'm not sure what was in the donor truck.

Ok that single wire IS for cruise control if you do not have it on you truck, just leave it just tape the end tape it to the housing out of site. But check to make sure you color's are in the same place on the conectors.

OK so it is cruise control.

Now I've run into another problem, my original column is splined where the steering shaft coupling is. The one I bought is not. Is there any way to make this work with my original steering shaft?

Should I try to find a shaft with a coupling that will fit the new column?

Is this black and white picture the shaft coupling I need?

    Thanks again,

Well all the 73 - 1987 steering shafts come looking like pic two ( right ).
I do not know of any way becauce I never tried working with it, but not sure it would be less work or cheaper then just getting the right one.
I think they sell new one on here if you what take out some play. But a used one will work ok unless it shot . But I forget now, but think you need one for the years of 1973-1979 to be on the safe side.
That other one must be out of a older car or some small truck.

I hope this helps. sorry about the shaft.

Thanks for the input. I also thought that the column that was in there was not the original. The hazard light switch was broken off but I found it in the glove box and it looks like it is from an early 70's model.

Hope to post some pictures soon but I would like to get it on the road first.

I work pretty close to some junk yards and I planned on going after work but today is my baby girl's birthday, so maybe tomorrow.

    Thanks again!!
