Hello I have a 57 chevy 3100 series p/u. I have a few questions about my truck. I tried your decoding and the results were 1957 3100 series plant Kansas City, MO . The vin on the truck is 3A57K121850 . Engine block id numbers casting # 3837004 . Stamped id number F3I8H just left of distributor. Head casting # 3836848 no stamped number on head. Trans has 3 casting numbers tail housing #3707196 side plate #3845157 and trans housing # 3845122 Need to know if this is the motor that came in the truck new. Want to know if I have a matching number truck. Also my paint & trim codes do not match Info I have found. Paint code is 766 & trim code is STD. These codes are on the id plate front drivers inner door jam. The truck is blue in color now. And the old paint looks to be blue also. The codes in the glove box are gone. What color do I paint motor ? Need info on what color to paint all parts of the truck . Like motor ,bell housing, trans, linkage and etc. Thank you for your time.
FOUND PAINT CODE 766 IS ALPINE BLUE 11640. IF ANY ONE CAN HELP W/ OTHER IT WOULD BE A LOT HELP.LIKE TRIM CODE (STD)NEED HELP W/ IT AND OTHER. SEE ABOVE .THANKS BRANDON
Check out the first conference in this forum [General Chevy & GMC Pickups] The post [Info on history of truck] Could be steering you in the right direction. At least you found the color code listing: I couldn't on the lists for your year that I have. Good luck with a fun investigation.... Bob
Is this a 6 cyl engine? If so what is the cast number above the starter motor? it is a letter followed by 3 or 4 digits. It is half way between the oil pan flange and the pushrod cover.
there should be a cast number a little farther left of the distributor it is the date code. not stamped but cast.
OK THE CASTING NUMBERS FOUND ARE (CON 4 ) & (C127) ALONG W/ STAMPED NUMBER ( F3I8H ) IS THE I A (1) ONE ? LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE CASTING NUMBERS . IS THE MOTOR CASTING BIRTH 1st MONTH 27th DAY ? THANKS BRANDON
Thats the number I needed... C127 was cast march 12 1957, correct for your truck. You can also check the vin number on the frame to see if it matches your cab vin, it is stamped on top of the frame at the rear edge of the upper fromt shock mount on the drivers side. For color check out www.cheverolettruckservice.com click on engines...1957 I believe the pic at the bottom is the correct color. Good luck, Terry
