If anybody can answer this for me, I would like to know if the Heavy Half-Ton pickups had heavier built axles than a regular half ton?

The Heavy Half's had standard 1/2 ton axles with 3/4 ton leaf springs.

My 72 GMC has the Heavy Half Rating and has coil springs but it also has the large trailing arms which I have been led to believe that they made up the difference.

A heavy half was a 1/2 ton pickup with 3/4 ton springs. Most 3/4tons had coil spring rear axles. But a 3/4 ton would had have a full floating axle.Do you have a any kind of over load helper springs?

Is your truck a 1963 GMC? If so have you checked with the guys at 6066 GMC Trucks web site?

I can tell you what model it is by the Vin Number, it should look something like this, 1502 P G 3994 B.
